Product Description
Type Modern limited edition fountain pen, #31/300.
Product Name Paesina.
Manufacturer and Year Ancora, Italy, circa 2000
Length 5-1/4" and quite stout.
Filling System Vacuum filler. Twist the blind cap until it releases, dip the nib into a bottle of ink, and press and release the blind cap, waiting a few seconds after the release for the vacuum to suck up the ink.
Color Red resin with a barrel covered in "paesina pietra", which means "landscape stone" in Italian. This beautiful stone from Tuscany is primarily limestone and clay, and the iron and manganese hydroxide inclusions form beautiful, picturesque backgrounds. The trim is vermeil.
Nib 18k Medium nib. The Ancora nibs are famous for their quality. The tines are rather elongated, adding to the soft and spring-y feel. There's a little bit of flex, but no real line variation.
Condition Excellent in box. No scratches or cracks or chips. Some of the gold-plating has worn away, especially on the decorative bands on either side of the stone inset. We do see some small indents in the stone, but suspect that these are not chips, and rather are just part of the character of the natural material. The patterning in the stone is really striking, and you can see why the material is so prized. The velvet-lined box is not original to the pen, and we do not have paperwork for this pen.
