Product Description
Type Fountain Pen
Product Name Aurora Hastil, original edition as described in this review. We have seen other Hastils with corporate branding, and on this pen, the cap finial says "DIFCO".
Manufacturer and Year Aurora, Italy -- 1970s, this model was designed in 1969 and was recently brought back into production. Designed by Marco Zanuso, you'll find it in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
Length 5-7/16"
Filling System Takes old style Aurora cartridges or their "Trik-Trak" converter. Unfortunately, we have neither, so the buyer of this pen will need to acquire them on their own. We have installed a slim Parker squeeze converter, which seems to fit and allows the barrel to screw on fully, though it does not push all the way into the nipple
Color Matte Black with gold plated trim. The cap finial has the name "DIFCO" on it; we've found a couple of entities with that name, but can't tell which one this might be. The section is black plastic, and has the serial number DAC941 imprinted on it.
Nib BROAD 14k nib. Smooth and a bit springy.
Condition Excellent condition. This is a pencil-slim, elegant pen. The black finish on the cap looks really good. There are some small marks and shallow dings on the barrel's finish, but none of them have scratched or chipped the surface. The gold trim all looks great, with just some microscratching. The disk in the top of the cap has some slight bubbling, but is intact. The nib collar has some plating wear; the rest of the section looks great.
Additional pen history lesson: during 1973-75, Montblanc had a pen in their Noblesse line called the VIP, which was made for them by Aurora, and is essentially this same pen.
