Product Description
Type fountain pen and mechanical pencil set in box
Product Name Model unknown - nib marked INX
Manufacturer and Year Carters, USA -- 1930s
Length The pen measures 5-3/16" and the pencil measures 5-7/16".
Filling System Lever filler on the pen, works well, we just restored it with a new sac. The pencil works via the twisting mechanism and both extends and retracts. It takes thick leads.
Color We're calling this design "Mottled Red" due to the mix of red and black celluloid. Each has two cap bands and gold filled trim. The pen has rounded black end pieces separated from the red and black material by additional bands.
Nib Huge gold nib is marked "Carter INX Pen" and seems to be have a fine tip. It looks great. The tines spread easily and produce line variation from fine to broad, with a little more flex available with a modest amount of pressure. No full flex by our standards, but better than semi-flex. See the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent + condition, both have small amounts of plating wear but no dents, marks, or cracks on the pencil or the pen. The pen has a few scratches from posting and the pencil has a scratch on the cone. Both have handwear. Their imprints are clear and easily read. There are some polishing marks on the trim. They ship in a Carter's box with a frayed lining. The lining also has ink stains and some letters written in pencil.
