Product Description
Type Vintage collectible fountain pen in excellent working condition.
Product Name unknown
Manufacturer and Year Chilton, USA. Both nib and barrel are marked Boston, so this is likely from the late 1920s.
Length 5-1/8"
Filling System Pneumatic filling system. You slide out the full length of the barrel, immerse the nib in ink, hold your finger over the hole in the end of the barrel, and push down. This pressurizes the sac and when the pressure is released, ink is sucked into the sac. The pen has been restored here at Peyton Street Pens with a new sac.
Color Black and pearl celluloid. Gold filled cap band and clip.
Nib FINE Chilton nib, marked "Chilton Pen Boston". Smooth and firm. The nib size is not marked. NOTE: there is a crack in the nib, running down from the breather hole, which you can see in the nib closeup picture. It's possible that someone tried to flex it and the ill-advised experiment failed. This is a firm nib and the pen should be used with minimal pressure, so the crack should not cause any problems or get any worse.
Condition Excellent condition, superior except for the nib crack discussed above. The barrel has microscratching and light handwear, but no significant scratches, chips, or cracks. The imprint on the barrel is slightly worn, but is still readable. The gold cap bands are in good shape, no brassing or plating wear. The clip is in excellent condition, with just small touches of patina along the edges.
