Product Description
Type Vintage mechanical pencil in good working order
Product Name "One Dollar" pencil - Conklin introduced these in 1926 as a low-cost alternative to the metal-sleeved pencils that they had been producing since 1921 or '22.
Manufacturer and Year Conklin, Toledo Ohio - late 1920s
Length 5-1/2".
Filling System Takes 1.1mm leads, which extend and retract by twisting the endpiece. The ability to retract the lead was kind of a big deal at the time, as other early mechanical pencils could only propel the lead. We'll enclose a container of leads.
Color Black hard rubber with steel trim.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks or chips. This is a large-size, shiny, handsome pencil that works very well. The body has light to moderate scratching. There's a bit of pitting and plating wear at the top of the pencil. The clip has some brassing, and small dents on the edges. The eraser has hardened and probably isn't usable. The cone has microscratching. All imprints are clear.
