Product Name Crescent 40 as identified by the imprint at the end of the barrel. 4 is for nib size; 0 means no bands.
Manufacturer and Year Conklin, made in Toledo, Ohio -- 1920s.
Length Just over 5-5/16 inches.
Filling System Crescent filler. We've restored it with a new sac and its working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber (BCHR) with a gold filled crescent.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE Conklin Toledo #4 nib is smooth with nice tipping material. It is almost fully flexible with strong line variation. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The imprints are perfect and the chasing is present visually but the hard rubber is smooth. It has some discoloration, more on the cap than on the barrel. The end of the barrel has a few bite marks. The locking mechanism for the crescent spins well. The cap originally had a clip but it has been removed. As a result there is a larger hole in the cap than the breather holes. We photographed it. The pen ships in a vintage Conklin box, which has a lid that has become detached (it was just attached via the silk fabric). We've restored the pen and it's working very well.
