Product Description
Type Crescent filling ring-top fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Crescent "Student Special" fountain pen. This is the small sized ring-top version.
Manufacturer and Year Conklin, Toledo Ohio -- 1930s.
Length Just a hair over 4-3/8 inches, not counting the ring-top hardware.
Filling System Crescent filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber in a checkered pattern with gold plated trim and a 1/8" wide cap band.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE Conklin SS Toledo gold nib is smooth with nice tipping material. There was a crook in the nib which has been streightened out, but left a slight bump in the tines, this does not affect its writing. It's a little less than what we would call fully flexible, but substantially more than semi-flex, with easy line variation from fine to a double broad with very little pressure. See our writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition, no cracks or chips, dings, dents, or personalization. There's just a tiny spot of brassing on the edge of the crescent, but otherwise no plating wear. The hard rubber has discolored a bit, and the pattern is a little dulled by handwear. The imprint is mostly readable. The pen has been fully restored and it's working very well.
