Product Description
Type Black chased hard rubber fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name "Student Special" - marked on barrel and nib.
Manufacturer and Year Conklin, Toledo Ohio -- 1924-30.
Length 4-1/4 excluding ringtop hardware. This would have been the smaller, or "girl's" size.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with a checked pattern. Gold trim, including a 1/8" wide gold band.
Nib FINE firm Conklin "Student Special" Toledo gold nib spreads a little bit, but gives no real line variation to speak of. Excellent smooth and uniform tipping material. Some of these Student Special nibs can be fragile, so we suggest taking care not to flex it very much.
Condition Excellent condition. The black hard rubber is slightly faded, but the color is still nice and dark. The chasing pattern is strong. The cap and barrel have light handwear. There are some small marks in the hard rubber on the cap and barrel, but no cracks or chips. The edge of the cap is smooth and even. The lever and cap band have microscratching, but no brassing or plating wear. The ringtop hardware is in good shape. The pen has been fully restored and it's working very well. The imprints are clear.
