Product Description
Type Collectible Snorkel Filling System Fountain Pen
Product Name PFM III
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA -- 1960
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System The PFM III uses a snorkel filling system. The snorkel works in combination with the Touchdown filling system. Unscrew the knob to extend the snorkel, pull out the piston, immerse the tip of the snorkel in ink, and push the piston down. Wait 10 seconds to allow the bladder to expand and pull the ink in. Then screw the knob to retract the snorkel. No need to wipe ink off of anything. The filling system works well with excellent suction.
Color Green with Gold Filled Trim.
Nib MEDIUM 14k nib. Firm and smooth with excellent tipping material.
Condition Very nice condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a large, substantial pen with executive styling, quite handsome, elegant, and shiny. The White Dot is level with the clip, almost as if it's been sheared off (we see these recessed white dots fairly often on PFMs). The part that is there looks smooth and white. The clip looks pretty good from the front, but has plating wear along all of its edges. The cap and barrel have microscratching and some light scratching in places. The wide 3/8" cap band has microscratching and polishing marks, some brassing along the bottom edge, and some dots of plating wear along the top edge. The imprints are clear.
