Product Description
Type Vintage pen in excellent condition which works beautifully
Product Name Model 5 (marked on the end of the pen barrel) - Colorband series. This is the "Red" model, with the nib code matching the band at the top of the cap.
Manufacturer and Year Waterman, Canada - circa 1920s
Length 5-1/16" long
Filling System Lever filler. We have replaced the sac and it's working very well.
Color Red ripple hard rubber with gold plated trim
Nib MEDIUM FLEXIBLE "RED" NIB. It's marked "Red Waterman's IDEAL Canada" and has a keyhole-shaped breather hole. The feed is made of the same red ripple abonite material, and may be original to the pen. Waterman described this nib as being for general writing with a medium amount of flex. It has excellent flex, though not as much as the extra flexible "Pink" and "Black" nibs, and gives you line variation from medium to almost double broad. See the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The cap band looks great, with just tiny touches of brassing. The clip has brassing on the ball and some plating wear along the sides. The lever tab has some plating wear on the tab, but is otherwise in good shape. No cracks or scratches or personalization. Excellent color and imprints. The original colorband ring is still in place, though it's expanded a bit and there's a gap that's opened up, which we've detailed in the pictures. You can get replacement plastic bands to replace these original ones, but we like to keep the originals for as long as we can.
