Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen.
Product Name Esterbrook SJ Pen.
Manufacturer and Year Esterbrook, made in USA -- 1950s.
Length 4-13/16".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color A gray that matches what people call pearl gray even though Esterbrook called all their grays, "Gray." It's not dark enough for us to call it dawn gray. Steel trim and black jewels on either end.
Nib FINE FIRM #1554 steel nib is smooth with a flat feed. The 1000 series of nibs don't have any tipping material. Instead the tines are bent for a "DuraChrome" point. The 1554 nib is catalogued as a Firm Fine for shorthand and penmanship and for clerical writing. It has "Gregg" written on it which means it is officially approved for shorthand writing and it looks more like a medium than a fine.
Condition Excellent + condition. The pen has low handwear and very nice coloring. There are some tool marks on the section and a few scratches on the barrel. No cracks, chips, dents, personalization, or plating wear. We've restored the pen and it's working very well.
