Product Description
Type Retractable ballpoint Pen
Product Name Space Pen
Manufacturer and Year Fisher Space Pen Company, USA -- date unknown but invented in 1965 and have been used since 1967 on all manned Space Flights (American and Russian).
Length 5-7/16"
Filling System It takes Fisher Space Pen refills that are sealed and pressurized. A working refill is included with the pen. Refill extends by pressing the knock ("clicky button") on the end, and retracts by pressing the button that's on the barrel near the clip.
Color Gold colored. No markings that indicate any precious metal content. The barrel is hexagonal shaped, like a classic wooden pencil or Bic Cristal.
Condition Near mint in black velvet box. This is a shiny unique pen that is nicely weighted and has an interesting history. There is some micro-scratching on some of the facets, but overall it looks new. The box has some surface wear. We're really intrigued by this pen, but can't find any details or history for it. The hexagonal barrel shape and retractable knock mechanism are unusual for Fisher Space Pens, and the lack of markings kind of makes us think of the mysterious Area 51.
