Product Description
Type Silver chatelaine case for carrying a slender pen or pencil with chain. Hard to find.
Product Name Chatelaine Case is what this is called in a 1908 British Mabie Todd catalog that we found. This exact pattern wasn't in the catalog.
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Bard, New York -- c. 1908.
Length 5-1/2" long for the tube. The chain and clasp are an additional 2-3/4".
Color Chased sterling silver in floral patterns with some fancy flourishes.
Condition Excellent condition. There are some areas where the chasing is slightly worn. There are some dents and dings in the surface, as you might expect with thin sterling silver like this. It's still an attractive holder, and would likely accommodate a slender wooden pencil or eye dropper pen. The cap configuration is clever - attaching a chain to the longer portion and running the chain through rings on the cap means that you won't lose the cap. There is some plating wear on the chain. The imprints are worn but readable.
