Product Description
Type Retracting dip pen nib holder with telescoping pencil
Product Name Unknown.
Manufacturer and Year The nib is marked Mabie Todd, and there's an imprint on the barrel that reads "M.T. & Co."
Length Holder: 3" (miniature). With pencil extended: 4-3/8"; With dip pen extended: 4-5/8"
Filling System None, as the pen portion is a dip nib only. It's nicely flexible, and we'd likely call it a "wet noodle" if there were an internal ink source. You could use fountain pen ink with this, but because that is water-based, you're going to have to dip it frequently. This is going to be one of the few times we might suggest using calligraphy ink, letting the viscosity work in your favor without worrying about clogging up a feed mechanism. (You will still want to wipe the nib clean between writing sessions). Our writing sample (done with Dr. Ph. Martin's calligraphy ink) will give you an idea of the line variation the nib offers. Twisting the end of the holder extends the mechanical pencil. Sliding the middle ring extends and retracts the nib. The mechanical pencil takes 0.9mm leads. We will include a packet of leads.
Nib FINE FLEXIBLE Mabie Todd and Co. nib. See writing sample below.
Color Gold filled with a pattern of small diamonds that give texture and sparkle to the surface. The holder is engraved with initials "M.A.H.C.".
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, dings or scratches. This is a small, dainty, sparkly pen/pencil holder that is very pretty. (There is some ink showing in the photo around the top opening, but it cleaned off after we did the photos.) Everything else looks great and the extension mechanisms work very well. The holder is personalized, "M.A.H.C.". The imprints are clear.
