Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen.
Product Name L312/89 (the model number is visible on the end of the barrel).
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd & Co., England -- circa 1930s.
Length 5-5/16"
Filling System Leverless filler (twisting the knob at the end of the barrel twists the sac to compress it, and and untwisting causes the ink to be sucked into the sac). We've restored it with a new sac and it's working well.
Color Magenta Lizard Skin (we've also seen this color documented as Garnet). Really unusual celluloid (?). Black finials. Gold plated cap band and clip.
Nib Fine 14k gold #4 Mabie Todd "Swan" nib.
Condition Very nice condition. This is a richly colored, shiny pen. There is a crack in the barrel threads, which we have documented in the pictures below. This is a very fine and tight crack, and we were able to re-sac the pen without aggravating it, but if you are not a professional we discourage you from pulling the seciton and we cannot give a refund if the crack is made worse. There are also two cracks in the cap lip, neither of which extend beyond the cap bands. We do know that this material is notorious for cracking, so we recommend not posting the cap. The cap and barrel have light to moderate scratching. The cap band looks very nice, with minimal brassing. The clip has plating wear on the ball end, and some brassing along the sides. The imprints are nice and clear.
