Product Description
Type Lever filler fountain pen
Product Name Blackbird. We're not quite sure what specific model this one is, which is unusual. Normally, we see all kinds of imprints on Mabie Todd pens, but nearly everything has been polished away here. The nib and section are the only parts remaining that identify it as a Blackbird.
Manufacturer and Year Mabie Todd Blackbird, England -- 1930s. Blackbird refers to the middle quality line of pens produced by Mabie Todd.
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System Lever filler, restored with a new sac.
Color Red woodgrain celluloid. We thought it might be hard rubber, but we cannot smell the hard rubber odor when we rub it. Gold plated trim.
Nib 14k "Blackbird" nib. It is a springy nib which is both smooth and flexible, with line variation from fine to broad, and very fine hairlines. See the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent + condition. No cracks, and only light scratching. The color of the material is really strong with minimal fading. The clip has brassing around the ball and on the top hump, and some plating wear around the top edge. The lever bar has plating wear and some flaking along the sides.
