Product Description
Type Vintage ring top fountain pen
Product Name Monitor Ring Top Pen
Manufacturer and Year Monitor (a Wahl sub-brand), USA -- Likely 1920s
Length 3-5/8" -- this is a very short pen, even for a ringtop. It's about 4-1/2" when posted.
Filling System The fountain pen is a lever filer. A new sac has been installed and it is working well.
Color Red hard rubber with gold filled trim. The trim consists of a 1/8" band at the top of the cap and a 1/8" band at the lip. The red hard rubber is a strong orange color. The ring top mechanism is missing or it could have originally had a ribbon/string threaded through it.
Nib MEDIUM FLEXIBLE 14k warranted nib with great line variation. The tines spread very easily and we feel comfortable calling this full flex. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. The end of the barrel has some bite marks. There are also a few darker spots in the orange. It is worst at the end of the barrel and has mostly stayed orange. The edges of the cap bands and the ridge of the lever have some plating wear. There are a few marks throughout and the cap imprint is a bit difficult to read. It has been personalized, "GEORGIE MAE SHOFNER."
