Product Description
Type Early safety-fill fountain pen
Product Name Non-Leakable Safety. Non-Leakable is printed on the middle of the barrel.
Manufacturer and Year The Moore Co., made in USA -- probably 1920s. The pen was produced for around 30 years but around 1917 changed the company name from American Pen Co. to Moore.
Length 4-11/16", capped 4-1/8" uncapped with nib extended.
Filling System This is a variation on the safety pen. To fill you unscrew the cap and fill the pen reservoir like an eyedropper, then push the bottom part of the barrel towards the section to extend the nib. It is slide based. This "Non-Leakable" system includes a pin in the cap to push the nib down if the user forgets to retract the nib before attaching the cap, but that still risks nib damage so please do your best to remember to slide the nib back into the barrel before capping. The system has been disassembled, restored, and tested. It is working well.
Color Black chased hard rubber with a checkerboard design. It also has two 3/4" ornate gold filled bands with a pattern of leaves and fancy swirls. The barrek band has a monogram, "FCM".
Nib FLEXIBLE EXTRA FINE nib. It has an American Fountain Pen Co. imprint which may seem mismatched at first, but is the original name of the Moore Co. Please see the writing sample below.
Condition Excellent + condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a small, beautiful pen with ornate trim, The chasing is crisp on the cap and barrel. There are marks on the barrel where the trim piece twists up the barrel to extend the nib. The coloration is a nice, dark chocolate brown with the original dark black on the part of the pen that is under the cap. The pen is personalized on one of the barrel bands, "FCM". The barrel imprints are clear.
