Product Description
Type Rare vintage vacumatic filling fountain pen.
Product Name Parker "51", First Year - Identified by the following characteristics:
1. Double jewels (in this case, both are steel).
2. Inprint on blind cap, rather than near the clutch ring.
3. Aluminum Speedline style vacumatic system.
There's nothing to identify the sterling cap as first year, because not all of them had the imprint near the jewel. Five fingered clutch insert. Not all first year pens have all the first year characteristics, but one this does have the majority of them.
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in USA -- 1941 (you can make out a .1. date code).
Length 5-1/2".
Filling System Speedling style vacumatic filling system. We've fully restored it and it's working perfectly.
Color Cordovan brown body with a sterling silver cap in a pattern of even lines. Gold plated trim, with a blue diamond clip (the blue diamond paint is very good), and double aluminum jewels.
Nib EXTRA FINE 14k nib. It's so fine that it requires a light hand. It's firm and has very good tipping material.
Condition Excellent condition. There's a very light dent in the cap just below the tassie ring to the right of the clip. There's some light scratching on the cap and some small marks of wear. There's some light scratching on the barrel and the section as well, and some scratching on the clutch ring. There's a little plating wear on the corners of both tassie rings, as well as on the sides of the clip, as well as what looks like a little extra metal on the tip of the clip (see photos). The metal jewel on the blind cap is very scratched, but the cap jewel is smooth and clean (see photos). There are no cracks or chips, and no personalization. The color is quite good, and the imprints are a bit worn but still readable. It's fully restored and working well.
