Nib FINE Parker Duofold nib, stamped with "Parker Duofold Made in USA 18". Smooth with excellent tipping material. (See note below regarding the stamping)
Condition Excellent condition. This is a small, dark, shiny pen in an excellent color pattern and with a classic design. There is a small 1/8" hairline crack in the cap lip. It does not extend past the lower cap band, and we're unable to capture it in a photo. The rest of the cap has light scratching. The cap band has several spots of brassing. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip, and light scratching. The barrel is slightly darker than the cap. The clip has some brassing along the sides, as well as on the ball end. The imprints are clear.
THIS PEN SHOULD NOT BE POSTED, and we cannot accept a return if the crack is made worse by the customer, as it is virtually imperceptible now but it won't stay that way if the cap is posted.
(Note: the 18 that's stamped on the nib is a bit of a puzzle. Duofolds were made in the USA from around 1921 - 1936. The company started using date codes in 1934, and the format was QY, where Q is the quarter and Y is the last digit of the year. "18" would have corresponded with the 1st quarter of 1938 under that schema, but these pens had gone out of production by then. Parker was still making Duofolds in other countries into the '40s...but the nib indicates that it was made in the US. It's possible that the nib was a replacement, or perhaps it was a code for something else, like nib size. We can't find any documentation to back up that last possibility. Perhaps it's just one of those mysteries that keep us fascinated by vintage pens!)
