Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name Parker Vacumatic Long Major
Manufacturer and Year Parker, made in USA -- 1940s (the area where the date would be looks smoothed, almost like it's been heated a bit? In any case, the plastic plunger point to a post 1942 manufacture date.)
Length 5-5/16" long. The regular Major from this time is about 5-1/8".
Filling System Vacumatic plunger filling system has been restored here at Peyton Street Pens and is working well. This has the late plastic plunger system.
Color Golden Pearl body and cap with gold plated trim. It has crosswise golden brown bands alternating with translucent amber bands. The cap has a black cap jewel and a chevron-patterned cap band just over 1/8" wide. It has a blue diamond clip.
Nib FINE 14k nib. It is smooth and springy with nice tipping material. The nib is a narrow fine.
Condition Excellent condition. The imprint on the barrel is slightly worn, especially on the right edge, but still readable. The translucent amber bands are very thin on this pen, which reduces the barrel transparency. The pattern on the cap band is slightly worn, but there is no brassing or plating wear. There is some moderate to heavy scratching on the cap above and below the cap band. The clip has some plating wear along the edges, and the tassie has brassing. The cap jewel has scratching, but no cracks or chips. There are some shallow scratches near the end of the barrel, as well as on the blind cap. The blind cap also has some tool marks. No cracks, chips, or dents. It's working well.
The barrel of the pen is personalized with the name "Mrs Reuben Simmon" in capital letters.
