Product Description
Type Fountain pen in an uncommon color with an uncommon nib
Product Name 140 (Marked on cap trim and barrel end imprint)
Manufacturer and Year Pelikan - Germany, 1954-1955. This model was produced from '52-'55, but we know that Pelikan made changes to this model in 1954. This pen contains elements from before and after that year. The barrel imprint points to 1952-54, but everything else (such as the logo on the top of the cap) is characteristic of 1954-55. It could be a pen that was made during the transition period, with leftover parts. Since there are more elements pointing to the later part of this period, we're picking that one.
Length 4-7/8"
Filling System Piston filling system. We have tested it and it's working very well.
Color Dark green cap, barrel, section, and piston knob. Gold plated trim.
Nib HARD FINE 14k nib, marked HF. (The dark green 140 on the pelikan collectibles website has a different nib, but we understand the fir tree nib seen on this pen was appropriate for the early 1950s.)
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a classically designed pen in a great color. The barrel has light scratching, but no noticeable individual scratches. The ink view window has some slight ink stains, but overall the transparency is fantastic. The piston knob has scratching. The cap has moderate scratching. The cap band looks good, no brassing and plating wear. The clip has some brassing around the edges. The logo on top of the cap looks good. The imprints are clear.
