Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen & pencil set.
Product Name Unknown model.
Manufacturer and Year Pick Pen Co., Cincinnati, Ohio. They made pens from 1920 to 1933, and since this model seems vaguely Balance-like, we are guessing this pen is from the later years.
Length Fountain pen 5-3/8" and pencil is 4-1/8". Verging on the oversize.
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and its working well. Pencil takes thick 1.1mm leads, and extends them by twisting the nose cone.
Color Burgundy and black marbled color with gold plated trim and two thin cap bands.
Nib FLEXIBLE MEDIUM gold Pick #6 nib is smooth with nice tipping material. The line varies from a larger fine to a nice smaller broad with a little pressure. See our writing sample below.
Condition Excellent condition. Fountain pen: Light scratches here and there. The celluloid at the end of the barrel is showing some changing chemical composition; it is discolored and has some crystallization, which is fairly common for this material. The trim looks fantastic, with just a bit of plating wear on the top of the clip. The imprint is clear and easily readable. The pencil also looks really good. No discoloration of the material. The rings has small touches of brassing on their edges. The clip and nose cone both have brassing and there is some plating wear on the edges of the clip. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or personalization.
The end of the barrel is likely to be fragile. We obviously never recommend that you drop your pens or throw them around, but you'll want to be especially careful with this one.
