Product Description
Type Capless fountain pen -- the nib retracts like a ballpoint.
Product Name Capless model. We believe this is one of the RW models introduced in 1965. It would have been a student model. We have an original tag that reads "CLF-100" and the plastic end piece reads "GC 19" but we didn't manage to match either label with a model.
Manufacturer and Year Pilot, Japan -- 1966, the nib has a date code that reads 2-66.
Length 5-7/16"
Filling System Pilot cartridge or converter. A Pilot squeeze converter is installed. You access the converter by unlocking the nib unit and barrel end from the clip and nib end. Push the barrel end in a little and twist to unlock. After that you pull the barrel end off of the nib unit. It's a bit tricky. To re-lock the barrel line up the red dot with the red triangle and push in and twist the opposite direction.
Color Gold satin finish barrel with pastel aqua ends. The photographs make the plastic look much darker and less green than the pen looks in person.
Nib MEDIUM gold plated nib writes smoothly. The "M" for medium on the original tag confirms the nib size. We know this particular model had steel and 14k nib versions and there is no 14k or 585 imprint so we presume the nib is steel with gold plating.
Condition Near Mint condition. We suspect that the pen is new old stock but there is some handling wear. It has an original barrel label/tag.
