Product Description
Type Japanese eyedropper fountain pen, fountain pen
Product Name Unknown.
Manufacturer and Year Pilot, Japan -- pre-1938, based on the logo on the pen's barrel. The buoy with the letter N in the middle was used before that time, and in 1938, Pilot's logo changed to incorporate a P in the center when they renamed to "Pilot Fountain Pen Company" .
Length 5-1/16".
Filling System Eyedropper filler with an internal shut-off valve, often called "Japanese eyedropper". After filling the pen and writing a bit, the ink in the feed will be depleted, and the solution is to unscrew the knob at the end of the barrel slightly to release the valve and let the ink flow. When you're done with your writing session, be sure to close up the valve to keep the ink from leaking freely. It's important to remember that this pen doesn't have the "fins" or ink collector, so keeping the valve open will allow the ink to leak.
Color Green and black marbled. Silver colored trim.
Nib FINE steel nib, labeled "Warranted Platinum Pen" with a keyhole-shaped breather hole. This is clearly a replacement from the original.
Condition Excellent condition. There is light handwear and scratching on the cap and barrel, but no cracks. The clip has light brassing and plating wear, and a tiny bit of wiggle. The cap band is missing. The surface of the nib has some corrosion and pitting, but this doesn't affect the writing performance. The section looks really good. The barrel has an area with some heavy scratches, just below the imprint, and a mark that runs through the right side of the imprint. The valve knob looks good, and the filling system is working well. The imprint is clear.
