The year 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of Pilot's revolutionary Vanishing Point retractable fountain pen. The company marked the anniversary by making a limited run pen of Japanese Itaya maple. Both section and barrel are made of this material, and all of the hardware is gold. The body of the pen is lightly finished, and will undoubtedly gain character over time. Pilot also excels at presentation for their limited presentations, and this release is no exception. It comes in a maple box, luxurously lined in a soft fabric, with a maple plaque noting the provenance of the pen. As always with Pilot's fountain pens, a box of proprietary cartridges is included, but the final special touch here is that cartridges are also contained in a maple box that closes with two tiny magnets. It's altogether a lovely presentation of Japanese craftsmanship.
