Product Description
Type eyedropper fountain pen.
Product Name Unknown. We consider this an imitation of the sterling filigree pens of the day, made by Waterman and others.
Manufacturer and Year Regal, made in the USA -- 1900s-1930s.
Length 5-3/16.
Filling System Eyedropper filler. We cleaned and tested it and it's working very well. We will send instructions and recommendations for usage as well as some silicone grease and an eyedropper.
Color Black hard rubber with a silver plated filigree on the cap and barrel. The filigree has cutouts that look stamped out instead of handcut so the edges come out a bit and there are small dents in the corners of each cut out. The cut outs are geometric shaped.
Nib MEDIUM Regal nib. The tipping material is completely worn away but the nib still writes well. There is a particular sweet spot for smooth writing. The upstrokes are quite scratchy when the pen isn't held just right. The tines are springy but don't move enough for line variation. The nib is marked "The Regal 14k Gold" but we are almost positive the nib is not gold, just gold plated.
Condition Excellent condition. The black hard rubber is very dark with a little inconsistent coloring at the end of the barrel. There is a long internal crack in the cap but it is almost entirely covered by the filigree. The barrel filigree has a few marks. The cap filigree is dented and has a few plating wear marks. The dents aren't immediately noticeable due to how the cutouts were made in the filigree. The nib has the aforementioned lack of tipping. The pen works well and the body has no cracks.
