Product Description
Type Combo pen.
Product Name Unbreakable model
Manufacturer and Year Secretary, a sub-brand of Newark Pen Co., a third tier company, made in USA -- 1930s-40s.
Length 5-1/4".
Filling System Lever filler on the fountain pen end. We restored it with a new sac and it's working very well. Twist mechanical pencil on the other end. It takes "thick" or 1.1mm leads.
Color Pearlescent yellow with black veins. It has a 1/8" detailed cap band. The yellow looks pretty green in the photographs but is much lighter and on the yellow side in hand.
Nib FINE 14k Secretary nib is smooth with good tipping. It is a little springy but not flexible. There is a dent centered on the slit that shows on the two tines. It is a little deeper on the left tine and has some black filled in as a result. The dent hasn't affected flow as far as we've tested.
Condition Excellent condition. There is handwear and the imprint is a bit worn but legible. The heaviest wear shows in the trim which is very worn on the cone and ring top mechanism. The lever and cap band are a little brassed but not too much. There are two or three hairline cracks in the cap that follow the outlines of the celluloid chunks, but they do not extend to the edges and they blend very well into the patterning and appear stable. The pen is restored and working very well. It has been personalized, "Anna Rhoads Garland."
