Product Description
Type Cartridge/converter fountain pen
Product Name Sheaffer 1000, also called the Dolphin in reference to the nib shape. This is the highest end of the "Dolphin" pens and is the only one with a gold plated cap. This is also the only model in this line that only had a cartridge version.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- Early 1960s.
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System The pen takes Sheaffer-style cartridges and converters. The barrel is quite narrow so only Sheaffer button converters fit. We have installed one of these hard-to-find converters in the pen. The squeeze and piston converters do not.
Color Black barrel and section with a gold plated cap. The cap has a grouped lines pattern.
Nib Medium 14k nib. The nib is completely unmarked but it is solid gold and it looks like a medium. The shape of the nib and the plastic around it gave the pen its dolphin nickname.
Condition Excellent + condition. The pen doesn't have much handwear and the cap looks great. There's a few spots here and there that could be early plating wear but they're not noticeable in hand. No scratches, cracks, dents, or personalization.
