Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling ring-top fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name 46 Special. The end of the barrel is marked C. This letter usually refers to the manufacturer of the celluloid material, in this case, C for Celluloid Manufacturing Company.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- circa 1920s. Pre-1927, which is when they stopped marking the ends of the barrels.
Length Just a bit shorter than 4-1/2".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Black celluloid with gold plated trim.
Nib FINE gold Sheaffer's #46 Special nib. It's smooth and firm, with nice tipping material. No flex (you sometimes see 46 Special nibs with a lot of flex, but that is not the case here).
Condition Excellent condition. No cracks or chips, dings or dents, or real plating wear. When you look at the pen horizontally, you can see at some angles that there is a slight bend in the barrel; it's evident in the horizontal shots below. It won't affect the pen's performance. There is a fair bit of microscratching on the surface of both cap and barrel. The clip has some brassing, especially on the ball end. The cap band looks quite nice. The lever has some brassing on the edges. No bite marks. The imprint is worn, but still legible. It's restored and working well.
