Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name Sheaffer 500 aka the "Dolphin." This is the touchdown version.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA - early 1960s
Length 5-3/16"
Filling System Touchdown system. Fully restored with a new O-ring and sac.
Color Blue with a brushed chrome cap and shiny chrome trim. Squared ends.
Nib Fine steel nib. The nib gives the pen its dolphin name, and it's a variation of the inlaid nibs Sheaffer was putting on the Imperials. The pen doesn't have a real inlaid nib, but instead one which is flat, inserted straight into the front of the section.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks or chips. This is a good example of this uniquely shaped pen which is also in a nice color pattern. The barrel has moderate wear near the end and the section has some long thin scratches caused by capping. The cap has microscratching. The square cap top has a little ding on one corner and some plating wear around the edges. The clip looks excellent. The imprints are crisp and clear.
