Type fountain pen set
Product Name Sheaffer 800-TD (fountain pen) aka the Dolphin/Porpoise model. The 800 is the model with the plastic body and cap, and the gold plated trim. TD refers to touchdown filler.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1962-64.
Length The pencil measures 5-1/16". The pen is 5-3/8"
Filling System The fountain pen uses the Sheaffer touchdown filling system. It has been restored and tested in house. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads and uses a twist mechanism. There is a fully intact eraser beneath the cap and a few leads in the barrel.
Color Burgundy with squared ends and gold plated trim. They have 1/4" cap bands and wide clips.
Nib Fine 14k nib (unhallmarked). It is nicknamed the "Dolphin" nib based off of the hump at the base of the nib. It is a faux-inlaid nib. We are designating this a fine nib, but it will write on the fine-medium side.
Condition Excellent + condition. The pen has low handwear and a few marks throughout. The most wear is on the section from capping. The pencil is a bit more worn with the barrel having a few long microscratches, a few dings, and a starting to fade imprint. The pencil cone is also scratched with hints of plating wear.
