Type fountain pen set
Product Name Sheaffer 800-TD (fountain pen) aka the Dolphin/Porpoise model. The 800 is the model with the plastic body and cap, and the gold plated trim. TD refers to touchdown filler.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1962-64.
Length The pencil measures 5-1/8". The pen is 5-5/16"
Filling System The fountain pen uses the Sheaffer touchdown filling system. It has been restored and tested in house. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads and uses a twist mechanism. There is a fully intact eraser beneath the cap and a few leads in the barrel.
Color Burgundy with squared ends and gold plated trim. They have 1/4" cap bands and wide clips.
Nib Fine 14k nib (unhallmarked). It is nicknamed the "Dolphin" nib based off of the hump at the base of the nib. It is a faux-inlaid nib. There is a chalk mark on the barrel indicating the nib size.
Condition Near mint condition, in box, with paperwork. The fountain pen has low handwear and a few marks throughout. There are some scratches on the section from capping. There is light wear on the cap and barrel. The chalk mark is present on the barrel, and you can make out the model number, type of filling system, nib width, and original price. The pencil has light handwear and microscratching. The grooved section area has some marks in the plastic. The pencil cone looks great, no brassing or plating wear. Chalk mark is also present on the pencil. Imprints on both pieces are clear. The box has some light storage wear, but is in excellent shape. The original instruction leaflet is contained in the box.
