Type Vintage pen and pencil set in excellent working condition.
Product Name Balance Lifetime 1000 fountain pen and 350 pencil. Both pieces have the model numbers marked on the barrel. This is not the super fat oversized Balance sometimes marked 1000, but it is a full size pen.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA - circa 1936-42 (those were the years of production in this color and clip style).
Length Fountain pen is 5-3/16" long, and pencil is 4-7/8" and very slender.
Filling System Vac filler. We've restored the filling system with a new sac and it's working perfectly. Pencil takes 0.9mm "thin" leads, which extend and retract by twisting the top half of the pencil. We will include a packet of leads.
Color Golden Brown striated with gold filled trim. "Radius" clip in the flattened style, and the pen has a medium sized 1/8" single cap band. The pen has a white dot on the back of the cap. The fountain pen is personalized on the barrel, "M J Gary".
Nib MEDIUM-FINE two-tone 14k Sheaffer Lifetime nib with serial number 7817918.
Condition Very nice condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a handsome pen and pencil set, in a loverly color pattern and with nice shine. The fountain pen has light to moderate wear on the cap and barrel. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip and it has a personalization, "M J Gary". The cap has a short scratch below the clip. The cap band has plating wear along the edges. The white dot is yellowed but it is fully intact. The mechanical pencil is in rough condition and has light to moderate scratching on the cap and barrel. (It does not add anything to the price, as we have priced this set based solely on the fountain pen.) The cone has light scratching and a few dots of pitting. The cap band has heavy pitting and surface bubbling. The clip has pitting on the lower edge of the radius clip; otherwise, it looks nice. The imprints on both pieces are clear.
