Product Name Balance 500 "Admiral". The Balances gained names around 1938 and this pen is from the 1940s.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1941-42, these are the official years the military clip was used but it could be from a bit later. This version of Marine Green was introduced in 1937.
Length 5-1/4".
Filling System Vacuum filler (vac-fil) filling system. It works with a piston and has been restored here at PSP.
Color Green striated celluloid cap and barrel with, called Marine Green, with gold-plated trim and a late Balance military clip. This is the second Marine Green produced by Sheaffer. The first is a marbled green and black.
Nib MEDIUM-FINE 14k Sheaffer's Feathertouch nib is smooth with a nice quantity of tipping material. The nib is springy, but doesn't offer line variation.
Condition Superior condition. The barrel transparency is perfect and the imprint is crisp. There are no cracks, chips, dents, or major scratches. There are only a few spots of plating wear. The cap lips on these Balances crack easily so please do not post the pen. We've fully restored the pen and it's working very well.
