Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen, restored and working well.
Product Name Balance 500 Feather Touch. Non-white dot, non-lifetime model. This is a large, full length pen, not one of the slender models, and almost as fat as the oversized Lifetime Balances.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA - 1936-42 (those were the years they made this pen in this color).
Length A little under 5-1/2".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored the system with a new sac and it's working well.
Color Brown striated barrel with gold plated trim and a "radius" style clip.
Nib FINE 14k Feather Touch #5 nib. It's two-tone, and both the tipping and the masking are in good condition, without much wear. There's just a little hint of flex to it.
Condition Excellent condition, no chips, dings, or dents. There are a couple of very tiny surface cracks on the top of the cap, which are purely cosmetic and hardly visible. There's a tiny indent on the very top of the cap, and some brassing on the trim, on the tip of the clip, the very edges of the lever, and some spots on the cap band. There are some very minor marks and scratches on the cap and barrel. The pen's imprint is fairly clear and readable, and its color is very good. The pen is fully restored and working well.
The barrel is engraved "C. C. Shewbridge" (see photos below). This is a very dark personalization and easy to miss, though we did try to throw a lot of light at it in the close-up below.
