Product Description
Type Fountain pen and mechanical pencil set, working well.
Product Name Triumph Autograph. The "Autograph" pens has both solid 14k bands and clip, whereas the "Signature" pens just had the 14k bands.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA, 1942-45
Length The fountain pen is 5-1/4" long, and the pencil is just under 5".
Filling System The pen is a lever filler, we have restored it with a new sac and it's working well. The pencil takes 0.9mm (aka "Thin") leads, which it extends via the traditional twist mechanism.
Color Black with 14k gold trim and 5/8" wide cap bands. The clips, cap bands, and pencil's nose cone are all marked as 14k gold; the lever bar is not marked.
Nib MEDIUM Sheaffer's Lifetime Triumph two-tone 14k gold nib is fairly smooth and firm with nice tipping material, and features a slight upturn at the tip. The masking on the nib looks great.
Condition Excellent condition. The fountain pen has light handwear and scratching. There is a noticeable dent on the cap band, near the end of the signature. The cap band also has scratching (see photos). No cracks or chips. The clip has a tiny mark near the open end, but looks great otherwise. No brassing or plating wear on the cap threads. The ink viewing window is very clear. The pencil looks fantastic, with very light handwear. No cracks, chips, dents, or dings. The nose cone has no brassing. The pen has been fully restored, and both pieces are working very well.
Both cap bands are engraved "John L. Sullivan" (see photos below). This was a feature of the Autograph pens, where the actual signature of the owner is reproduced on the bands.
