Product Description
Type Vintage lever filling fountain pen.
Product Name This is from the lower end of the Sheaffer Balance family, with no white dot.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- circa 1931-34 (those are the aproximate dates pens were made with this style of clip).
Length 5-5/16".
Filling System Lever filler. We've restored it with a new sac and it's working very well.
Color Red veined grey pearl with gold plated trim, a short round ball humped clip, and a thin cap band. The cap and barrel have discolored a little with a minor yellowish hue over the main color, but all in all the color is quite good.
Nib FINE-MEDIUM gold Sheaffer's #3 nib is smooth with nice tipping material. It's fairly firm with just a touch of springyness.
Condition Very nice condition. This celluloid pattern is especially prone to cracks, so upon close examination you'll see a network of hairlines, as well as a couple of small cracks on the top of the cap. . There's a chip on the lip of the cap (see photo). There's a little brassing on the ball of the clip and its upper edges, as well as brassing on the cap band. There's some lesser scratching on the barrel, and the lever is slightly loose so it hangs down a little. No dents or personalization. The imprint is clear and readable. The pen is restored and working well.
