Product Description
Type Fountain pen, restored
Product Name This is in the Balance Lifetime family, and it is full length but not quite as fat as the fat oversize Balance pens (but not slender, there was one of those too).
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA, late 1930s (radius clip)
Length 5-9/16"
Filling System Lever filler, restored with a new sac.
Color Black with gold trim.
Nib FLEXIBLE FINE 14k Lifetime nib. The area near the tines appears a little rough on the upper surface, but as far as we can tell, this does not affect the pen's function. Finding flex in this era of Sheaffer is really uncommon! The nib is not full flex, but you will get very nice line variation from fine to broad with little or no pressure. See writing sample.
Condition Excellent condition. There is light scratching and handwear on the cap and barrel. The front of the section, nearest the nib, has tool marks and some roughness around the edge. The ink viewing window is ambered, but is fairly clear. The lever bar has some brassing near the pivot end; the rest of it just has microscratching. The end of the barrel has some marks from posting the cap. The cap has some more moderate scratching near the top. The cap band has light to moderate scratching, but no brassing or plating wear. The clip has plating wear along the sides, but otherwise looks great. The White Dot above the clip is slightly yellowed, but looks great. No cracks or chips, really good plating. The imprints are clear.
