Product Description
Type vintage fountain pen and mechanical pencil set
Product Name Sheaffer Lifetime Balance Series
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - early to mid 1930s (short radius clips)
Length The fountain pen is 4-3/4" (this is too long for the "Petite" so it is considered a "Junior." It is not slender like the"Lady" Balances of the same length, it's slightly stout.). The mechanical pencil is 4-7/8".
Filling System Vac-fil system. Instructions will be included for filling the pen. The pencil takes 1.1mm leads.
Color Marine Green (green striated with black) with gold plated trim. White dot.
Nib Fine two-tone Lifetime nib with serial number F08880. There's a short crack peeking out of the base of the nib, so we do not recommend pulling the nib or the crack may worsen. Right now it is very stable and will not affect writing.
Condition Very nice condition in vintage oval box. This is a beautiful, dainty set in a very pretty color pattern, with great barrel transparency. The fountain pen has a very small crack in the cap lip and a small crack in the nib as was mentioned above. There are some small lines on the top of the cap, typical fracturing of the striated celluloid. The barrel has marks caused by the cap lip and some surface marks at the end. The mechanical pencil is in superior condition with no scratches. The box has plating wear around the edge and it has a few marks and smudges, but it is in very good condition given its age, though the strings to hold the writing instruments are missing. The imprints on both pieces are clear. The mechanical pencil imprint includes the 350 mark.
