Product Name Balance , a Lifetime model with a white dot (military clip version). This particular military model was called the Vigilant. The pencil is marked 400.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1940-2 (those were the years this pen was made with this kind of clip).
Length The pen is 5-1/8", and the pencil is 5" long
Filling System Vac-fil. We've restored it with new seals and it's working very well. The pencil takes 0.9mm leads.
Color Golden brown striated with gold plated trim, a white dot on the cap below the clip, and a military style clip.
Nib EXTRA-FINE two-tone 14k Lifetime nib is smooth and firm with nice tipping material. Most of the masking is worn off.
Condition Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, dings, dents, or personalization. The fountain pen barrel has horizontal marks just above the threads caused by the cap. There is light to moderate scratching on the barrel's surface. The barrel transparency is good. The sides of the clip have plating wear. The clip is nice, but stands about 1/16" away from the surface of the cap. The nib masking is in good shape. The imprint is very clear and readable. The pen has the remains of a pesonalization, partially removed, but you can still read "David Wagner." The pencil has light scratching on the barrel and cap. The clip has no brassing, but there is a lot of wear on the cap band. The imprint is clear. Both pieces are working well.
