Type Fountain pen and ballpoint with base
Product Name J14 desk set. It is fitted with a Lifeime pen.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA -- 1960s.
Length Both pens measure 6-7/8". The rectangular base is 7-1/2" by 3-15/16" and 11/16" deep.
Filling System The ballpoint pen takes Sheaffer ballpoint refills. A working black Sheaffer refill is installed. The fountain pen is a Sheaffer-style cartridge/converter pen.
Color Black and pearl pen. The base is black.
Nib FINE "Long Diamond" 14k nib. It is smooth and writes a bit on the narrow side. It is unlabeled so we can't be sure it is a fine.
Condition Very Nice condition. The ballpoint pen has an inch long crack that runs lengthwise in the middle of the pen. It isn't in a location that should get worse from usage. Both pens have bite marks on the tails (the balloint is much worse than the fountain pen) and some additional marks near the white dot. The imprints near the sections are legible. The trumpets of the base are a bit brassed with polishing marks. One looks better than the other. There are tiny chips on two of the corners of the base and some missing pieces of felt on the underside of the base. An original Sheaffer sticker is still on the base.
