Product Name Sheaffer "Flat Top"
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA - late 1920s. This has the early high-mounted clip.
Length 5-5/16"
Filling System Lever filler, but there's no sac installed
Color Black chased hard rubber with gold plated trim and a wavy lined pattern.
Nib NO NIB. This listing is for the cutaway "demonstrator" only.
Condition Superior condition. All of the gold-plated trim is in great shape, no brassing or plating wear. The body of the pen is smooth where it is supposed to be, and the chased pattern in crisp and clear. The color is nice and dark, very little fading. Imprints are nice and clear. The cutouts in the barrel and cap give you a nice view of the inside of the pen, and if there was a sac installed, you could see it compress and expand as the lever is raised and lowered.
There are no cutouts in the section, and it isn't fixed in place, so if you find the correct sized nib, feed, and sac, this could be a working pen. The only caveat is that the cap cutouts might cause the ink to dry up, but it's also possible that the section extends far enough into the cap liner that it will keep the nib from drying out between uses.
