Type Collectible Snorkel Filling System Fountain Pen, in the hardest to find color
Product Name PFM III
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer USA -- 1960
Length 5-3/8"
Filling System The PFM III uses a snorkel filling system. The snorkel works in combination with the Touchdown filling system. Unscrew the knob to extend the snorkel, pull out the piston, immerse the tip of the snorkel in ink, and push the piston down. Wait 10 seconds to allow the bladder to expand and pull the ink in. Then screw the knob to retract the snorkel. No need to wipe ink off of anything. The filling system works well with excellent suction.
Color Dark Grey with Gold Filled Trim. 3/8" Gold Cap Band.
Nib MEDIUM 14k Nib
Condition Very nice condition. This is a large-sized pen in a solid dark grey color with gold highlights. The barrel has light wear with heavier scratches toward the end and on the blind cap (see photo below). The section has "flea bites" along the feed as well as a couple of splotches of surface wear, and two deeper scratches on opposite sides of each other at the base of the section (possibly a tool mark). The cap fits a bit loose on the barrel if you push it all the way, but it is secure and fits more tightly if you don't push it on all the way. It has moderate scratching. The cap band is nice and shiny with some light scratching but no brassing. The clip has moderate wear but no brassing. The white dot has sunken into the hole at the tip of the clip. The imprints are clear.
