Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name "Sentinel" was the name Sheaffer/Sailor gave this model .... not to be confused with at least two other "Sentinel" Sheaffer models!
Manufacturer and Year Made in Japan by Sailor for Sheaffer in the 1970s
Length 5-1/4"
Filling System We tested several options, and this specific pen only worked with a Sailor cartridge; we will ship the pen with one. See note below for more information.
Color Twilight Blue matte-finished lacquer or enamel with gold trim. The section is a deep cobalt blue color.
Nib Gold-plated F-4 nib is medium. The nib is branded Sheaffer, but we understand that Sailor made the nibs.
Condition New old stock condition. There is a scratch on the cap jewel, and one on the nib, but everything else looks new. Our inspection uncovered no signs that the pen was ever inked.
NOTE on cartridges and converters for this pen: As mentioned above, we tested several options. Sheaffer converters don't work, because the outer diameter is larger than the section opening. Standard international converters don't work, because the nipple in the section is wider than the opening in the converter. A modern Sailor converter sort of fits, but it's loose and we believe that this will result in leaking. The Sailor cartridges have a collar at the end, with a recessed inner seal. The nipple pierces the inner seal, and then the outer collar fits over a platform to keep the cartridge from wobbling. It seems as though the platform on this specific pen is smaller than normal, which is why the connection with the Sailor converter is loose.
