Product Description
Type Fountain pen
Product Name "Sentinel" was the name Sheaffer/Sailor gave this model .... not to be confused with at least two other "Sentinel" Sheaffer models!
Manufacturer and Year Made in Japan by Sailor for Sheaffer in the late 1980s/early 1990s
Length 5-1/4"
Filling System Sailor converters fit into this, and we have installed one. We think that Sailor cartridges will also fit, though we haven't tested that. See note below for more information.
Color Gray matte-finished lacquer or enamel with gold trim. The section is a darker gray color.
Nib Gold-plated F-4 nib is medium. The nib is branded Sheaffer, but we understand that Sailor made the nibs.
Condition Excellent condition. There are tiny scratches and marks in the surface of both the cap and barrel. The barrel end has several tiny chips in the lacquer, revealing peeks at the metal underneath. The clip is quite shiny, with no brassing or plating wear, and only a few tiny scratches on the upper face. The imprints are clear.
NOTE on cartridges and converters for this pen: We tested several options for this. Sheaffer converters don't work, because the outer diameter is larger than the section opening. Standard international converters don't work, because the nipple in the section is wider than the opening in the converter. A modern Sailor converter fits nicely. The Sailor cartridges have a collar at the end, with a recessed inner seal. The nipple pierces the inner seal, and then the outer collar fits over a platform to keep the cartridge from wobbling.
