Product Description
Type Vintage fountain pen with Snorkel filling system.
Product Name Sheaffer Statesman Snorkel. The Statesman is a white dot model similar to the Valiant, only with a palladium silver Triumph nib as opposed to two-tone.
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, made in USA -- 1952-59.
Length 5-9/16"
Filling System Snorkel filler with an angled snorkel tube. The cut on the end of the tube is based off of the nib, with Triumph nibs getting angled ends. We've fully restored it with a new sac, O-ring, and point gasket. Works very well.
Color Light gray body and cap with gold plated trim and a 3/8" gold cap band. This would have been called "Pastel Grey."
Nib MEDIUM Sheaffer's palladium silver nib. It is marked "M4" which matches the nib size and the style/material; the mark is a bit faded and difficult to see in hand, though it's fairly clear in the photos.
Condition Excellent condition. The barrel has mainly light wear with some more moderate areas of scratching toward the end. The cap has light scratching all around. The bottom edge of the cap band has some brassing. The white dot has some small scratches. The clip has some plating wear on the sides and around the top. Both the cap band and clip look bright and shiny in hand. The imprints are clear.
