Product Description
Type Vintage Sheaffer Ballpoint Pen
Product Name Stratowriter, this is the first Sheaffer ballpoint
Manufacturer and Year Sheaffer, USA -- 1946
Length 5-5/16"
Filling System The pen works by pushing down on the top button and then slightly turning it to lock the refill into extended mode. To retract the tip, push lightly then turn it back to its original position.
This pen originally took the screw in Stratowriter refills which are no longer made. A widget has been installed in the tip which allows you to use modern Sheaffer refills. In addition to the widget, there is a plastic piece (aka Doober) inserted into the top of the modern Sheaffer refill to hold it in the right place for the locking mechanism in the pen to work. Please remember to keep this attachment when changing refills. See the photo below. A working refill is installed. We will include a handout describing how to change the refill.
Color Gold filled pen from top to bottom. Originally, these pens had a piece which fit over the tip, but this one is missing. It is not necessary, it was just an added protection against leaks.
Condition Excellent condition with no cracks, chips, dents, or dings. This is a sleek, shiny, gold pen that has classic styling. The pen has mainly light scratching. There is a worn splotch near the tip and two longer scratch lines near it. The clicker has normal wear from usage (not bad). The tip protector (or cap) is missing, but it's really not necessary when using modern ballpoint refills. The imprints are clear.
