Type A 1920s bronze four piece desk set with art deco design features.
Product Name Vintage Silvercrest Desk Set with four pieces:
1) one 7-13/16 x 12" bronze desk tray with two receptacles: two side by side 3" x 4-7/8" receptacles on one side and one 5" x 6" receptacle on the other side. The tray has a 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" raised letter holder attached to the middle back of the tray. There is an imprint on the back of the tray numbered 2478.
2) one 3-3/8" x 6" decorated notepad holder with a 1-12/16" decorated overhang and with a brown felt backing. There is an imprint inside the notepad holder at the bottom, numbered 2219.
3) one 6-11/16 x 5-15/16" decorated perpetual calendar holder with a 4-1/8" x 3-1/8" calendar face. 1-1/8" decorated edge. Clear imprint on back numbered 2219.
4) one 5-1/4" x 2-7/8" decorated roller blotter that is 1-1/8" high at deepest part of wooden roller. It has a door knob handle at the center top.
The decoration around edges and on surfaces is an art deco design of rectangles with pointed edges. The design carries from piece to piece in various configurations and dimensions (see photos).
Manufacturer and Year Silvercrest. Silver Crest was the trademark used by the Smith Metal Arts Company of Buffalo, NY by Frederick Smith. He had been the head salesman for the Heintz Metal Arts Shop until the death of Otto Heintz in 1918.
Color Bronze with gold and brown patina.
Condition Excellent + condition with no dings, dents, chips or major scratches. The patina is uneven. The desk tray has some discoloration on the back and what appear to be fingerprints inside the three receptacles. The notepad holder has a small area of corrosion near the imprint. The felt backing is perfect. The perpectual calendar holder has an indentation on the back inside panel just where the imprint comes through from the back of the piece. The roller blotter has some light wear around the wooden edges of the roller. The blotter paper on the underside is in remarkably good shape. All imprints and numbers are crystal clear.
