Product Description
Type Thermometer holder
Product Name Thermometer case
Manufacturer and Year unknown, probably made in USA -- circa 1920s or 1930s
Length One thermometer is 4-1/8" and the other is a hair under 4" long. These are probably not the original thermometers. The holder is 5-3/8" .
Thermometer System Mercury thermometers. We confirmed that the mercury line moves but not whether or not it still measures accurately. Mercury thermometers shouldn't require recalibration but sometimes the mercury does shift in the glass tube and stops behaving properly.
Color The thermometer are standard transparent glass pieces with markings to read temperatures. The holder is red mottled rubber with black ends and a silver colored, likely nickel plated, cap band and clip. It grips the thermometers well. The slots for the thermometers are differentiated by silver and red openings. (The thermometers were made by two different manufacturers - one by Becton Dickinson, and the other by Trylon Faichney.)
Condition Excellent condition. There is consistent discoloration of the hard rubber, with just a small portion under the cap that's darker. Both the cap band and clip have plating wear and pitting. The barrel of the holder is personalized with "G. H. Camp, D.D.S.", but there's no indication of manufacturer. No cracks or chips.
